Creating an S3 bucket

The process of importing an image to EC2 takes two steps:

  1. First you upload a compatible disk image to S3.
  2. Then Amazon launches a conversion task to generate an EC2 image from the S3 data.

Your S3 bucket and your EC2 instance should be created on the same zone.

Load the S3 console and create a bucket:

You can give it any name you want, and choose the zone you'll want your EC2 image to run from:
